Stephon Clark City Council Meeting

Last week I attended about 75 minutes of the Sacramento City Council Meeting.  The public comment portion was dedicated solely to community members who wished to address the tragic March 18 police shooting of Stephon Clark, a 22-year-old black man who was unarmed and standing holding a cell phone in his grandmother’s backyard.

I don’t have a lot of photos, as mostly I was listening and trying to take in all the emotions and words that were being shared that night. It was an emotional, often tense and angry time, with numerous calls for reform, disarmament, gun control, action, justice and love. The speakers pictured here include George Raya, Cecile Nunley, Rashid Sidqe, Lindsay Williams, Robin Ware, all of whom are local leaders and activists. Listening are Council member Rick Jennings and Mayor Darrell Steinberg.
