A new image I made this week of the Kamloops Residential School, located on the banks of the South Thompson River. In 2021, an anthropologist surveyed the area with ground-penetrating radar and concluded the probable presence of about 200 unmarked graves, though "only forensic investigation with excavation" could confirm if these were actually human remains. The find was part of the tipping point that helped persuade the Pope to visit Canada to apologize for the Catholic Church's role in the schools. Debates are ongoing whether to conduct an archaeological excavation to exhume the likely human remains or leave the site undisturbed. #residentialschools #kamloops #blackandwhitephotography #nikonphotographer #indianschools
