2020 Planetary Conjunction

We enjoyed watching the beautiful 2020 planetary conjunction last night. Saturn and Jupiter were as close as they’ve been in 800 years. It was amazing to think that Galileo was alive the last time this happened, and that this supernatural event might be the original of the original “Christmas star.” Walking just up our street to a nearby vista point, I decided to shoot the Great Conjunction in context of all that was going on around us… the dusky sky, the […]

First Place!

I was honored to receive first place in photography at the recent Elk Grove Fine Art Center Annual Open Juried Competition. My image, “Dual Citizen” was an image that I took when in British Columbia last year. I printed it on Moab’s gorgeous art paper, and matted and framed it myself. My artist’s statement is as follows: Chris’ immediate family moved to L.A. from Edmonton, Alberta in 1980.  Because the rest of her family remains in Canada, she has spent […]

Charming Bruges

As part of our fall 2019 Baltic Cruise, we had a day to explore charming Bruges. Medieval Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish region of Belgium. It is in the northwest of the county, and we docked at Zeebrugge. The port bus took us the quick trip to the train station. We didn’t have any luck at the ticket machine, but a quick trip inside to the counter at the […]

Visit to London

I’m finally getting around to looking at all the photos I took during our brief visit to London last September. We had just a couple of nights before heading down to Southampton for a Baltic Cruise with my brother and his family. This time we chose to stay on the South Bank, near the London Eye, in a basic hotel located in the back side of the historic County Hall Building. It was a great choice because the pedestrian area […]

Warren Town Hall

Just two days after the Buttigieg Town Hall, on Sunday, February 16, I attended the Democratic Presidential Candidate Elizabeth Warren Town Hall in Reno, Nevada. It was held in the cafeteria at Reno High School, and it was a bit on the small side, with not great optics. I was there shooting as freelance for Shutterstock, using my usual Nikon D750s bodies with my Nikon Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 and Tamron 24-70 f/2.8. Compared to the other town hall, this one was […]

Pete Buttigieg Town Hall

Friday, February 14 (yup, Valentine’s Day), I attended the Democratic Presidential Candidate Pete Buttigieg Town Hall in downtown Sacramento. It was held at Cesar Chavez Park, right across from city hall, and it was a great venue. I was there shooting for Outword, and as usual will submit to Shutterstock as a freelancer, using my usual Nikon D750s bodies with my Nikon Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 and Tamron 24-70 f/2.8. I had not shot a political town hall, and it was […]

Lottery for the Arts

I am delighted to have two of my award-winning images included in upcoming Lottery for the Arts event. Blueline Arts holds the event every year, and I am proud to be a member of it. If you are not familiar with it, the March 19 Lottery for the Arts event in Roseville, California is a fundraising evening that raises money for art education by supporting a non-profit organization and its community of artists. “Checkmate in Sedona” was an image I […]

Round Hole Square Peg

Last weekend, I was very excited to be at Photo LA and to have “Best Little Cowboy” chosen to be part of the Round Whole Square Peg exhibit. Thanks to curators Claudia Bartlett, Paul Bridgewater, Ruben Esparza, Bert Green and Phil Tarley, who included me. I really loved and was inspired by all the amazing photography at Barker Hangar. If you are not familiar with the event, it is the longest-running international photographic art exposition on the West Coast. Thousands […]
