KAMLOOPS INDIAN RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL, B.C., CANADA – OCT. 30, 2021 I could not visit the North Shuswap area in British Columbia without seeing the Kamloops Indian Residential School (KIRS). Last summer, Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc (the Salish Indian band) announced that ground-penetrating-radar was used to locate the human remains of over 200 children. Pride is happening!

Pride (in Northern California) is happening!  Over the past few weeks, I\’ve visited three Pride celebrations.  Silicon Valley Pride was a full week of activities, with the night festival on Saturday, August 28, and the parade on August 29. Next up was Oakland Pride, BUT it got cancelled because of COVID. Foresthill Fire Breaks Out

This afternoon a fire broke out near the Foresthill Bridge. Police quickly closed off Highway 49, which leads down to the confluence of the two forks of the American River. They also closed the the Foresthill Bridge road.. Lake Clementine was evacuated and numerous local residents watched near Lincoln Highway and Bowman Road, as Cal Fire planes drop bright red fire retardant on the fire. Wakamatsu Fest150

I had the pleasure of attending the 150th anniversary celebration of Japanese immigration to the U.S. at the Wakamatsu Fest150, held in Placerville June 6-9, 2019. All images were taken with my Nikon D750 camera and Nikon Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6g lens. The event celebrates the 1869 arrival of a group of Japanese colonists from Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan in Gold Hill, California to start a tea and silk farm.
