Last month, I had a great time hosting a Placer Studio Artists Tour booth! Shannon & Bob McClurg at Grizzly Gallery in Penryn kindly invited me to be one of their guest artists. (As a photographer, I donʻt have a studio per say, as painters and woodworkers do.)
In 1994, Helen W. Phillips founded this event. The tour provides visitors with the opportunity to experience the wonder of art being created. This annual tour is Placer County’s largest artist event, with 80 artists and 5 galleries showcasing their work for art lovers.
It took months of choosing images, processing them, printing, matting and framing them. However, COVID helped out with that, as so many galleries had to cancel shows, events and exhibits. I had a good amount of extra time on my hands!
By November, I was ready to be part of the 27th annual PLACER ARTISTS STUDIOS TOUR. The nonprofit Arts Council of Placer County held the event November 6-8 and 13-15.
Setting up next to me was Dottie Phelps Visker, a wonderful painter and textile artist. We had two pop-up outdoor booths packed with art of all kinds next to Bobʻs woodworking shop on the beautiful McClurg acreage.
As might be expected, with COVID, it was a bit of a slow event. Not too many visitors made it out, even with the appointment system and COVID precautions. For those who did come to visit in the very brisk fall weather, it was a lovely time to chat about photography, art, and more!
Participating with a Placer Studio Artists Tour booth was a wonderful experience, and I hope youʻll consider getting out to see next yearʻs tour if you missed it this year!
