COVID transition time for Reno

“COVID Transition Time for Reno”: We decided to take our new, used (1999) convertible MB 230SLK out for a quick roadtrip to Reno. The weather alternated between sunshine, overcast clouds, and even some rain. It felt symbolic to me of the somewhat weird transition place we are in the pandemic right now. Even though tier levels still change on a weekly basis, California is supposed to be open with no restrictions on June 15. Nevada moves ahead However, Nevada has […]

Two New Shows!

I am delighted to have some of my work in two new shows this month. Opening Doors First, I am making my “premiere” at the beautiful Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock, California. The center just mounted Opening Doors, a juried exhibition celebrating the grand opening of the newly renovated Turlock Public Library. I was delighted to have two of my pieces, “Zoe in Wonderland” and “Super Library” accepted into the exhibit. Opening Doors Artists were invited to submit work that is […]

New Ag Gallery is up!

I’ve added a new gallery to my website. It’s culled from various agriculture images I have taken over the past few years in Yolo County. There’s more information on the gallery page, but Yolo Arts does a great job of helping farmers and artists connect in the area’s rich central valley growing communities. I’m always surprised by what I find, and these outings help me ponder the various resource, farmworker, pollination and other issues that are so critical to the […]

Exploring the Charm of Old Olive Farm

Here are some images from my shoot at Olive Farm out in Woodland last weekend. It was the monthly Yolo Arts Ag & Art program, and it was a beautiful day! The plein air painters were all set up, most focusing on the open grassy area between the main house and bunkhouse. The Barn A few of us photo types wandered around with our tripods. Old barns are a favorite of mine (you never know what youʻll find. This time, […]

St. Patrick’s Day Car Parade

Here are some images from this year\’s St. Patrick\’s Day Car Parade.  I walked 10 minutes from my studio to the intersection of High Street and Lincoln Way, where I like shooting these events.  At the bottom of the little hill there, I can get some of the cool, older buildings that are part of downtown Auburn.  Families often congregate near the clock and small courtyard, so that makes it easy for catching candids. The event kicked off at 5:17 […]

“Lake Arrowhead Star Trails”

“Lake Arrowhead Star Trails” is the first star trails image I have done in several years. I was fortunate enough to be able to stay at a friend’s house this past week in the San Bernadino mountains. After a surprise snowstorm, the Lake Arrowhead sky cleared and I triend my first set of star trails over their tudor-styled guesthouse. I ended up prefering the snowstorm photo. Take two… So, I decided to try something else and headed down to the […]

“Rio Favela,” circa 1987

“Rio Favela” (scan from print, circa 1987). This month, my chosen charity is GAVI. This vaccine alliance is working with the World Health Organization ( WHO). Their goal is to support 92 low- and middle-income economies’ access to safe and effective #COVID19 vaccines. Ten percent of all print sales this month will go to Gavi, in addition to the personal donation I have already made. What is a favela? If you’re not familiar with the word, “favela,” it is a […]

Brookings, Oregon

Here are a few images from Brookings, Oregon from our trip last weekend. Capella by the Sea is a sweet, beautiful architectural gem in Azalea Park. My in-camera multiple exposure tries to show the interplay between structure and nature that is such an integral part of the building. I also included a selective focus cala lily in a nearby garden bed. The light is so soft and diffused with the rain, and I love the way the individual drops bead […]

Happy Valentines Day 2021

Happy Valentines Day 2021 to lovers everywhere! Hereʻs an image I took on the South Bank of London on the Thames a few years back. They appeared to be a middle-aged couple taking in the beauty of the summer evening. The South Bank area is super fun, hip and a great place for street and candid photography. If you donʻt know it, look for the brilliant neon red London Eye ferris wheel. You canʻt miss it! According to Wikipedia, South […]
