When the War is Won: Pastor Casey Tinnin was falsely accused

With minor modifications, here is the article on Pastor Casey Tinnin that I wrote with photos that appeared in Outword Magazine in October 2023.  * * * When the War is Won It took almost three months of investigation and a 30-page document to say what Pastor Casey Tinnin already knew. “Nothing fixes things like the truth. I knew the facts. But I only know what I know.”   Tinnin is referring to the Van Dermyden Makus Investigations Law Firm report on […]

Roseville Joint Union High School District Board Meeting: Echoes of the Past

Last week I attended the Roseville Joint Union High School District Board Meeting. Pictured here are Board members Heidi Hall (Clerk), Pete Constant (President), Julie Hirota (VP), Superintendent John Becker, and speakers Natalie Robbins (President of the Roseville Secondary Education Association), and Barb Brass of PFLAG. Purpose The meeting was almost entirely dedicated to the nearly two hours of public discussion around a proposed parental notification policy. Sept. 11 20th Anniversary

AUBURN, CA, U.S.A. – SEPT. 11, 2021 Here in Auburn, we had a special ceremony commemorating the September 11 20th Anniversary. The event actually celebrated the planting of the Liberty Tree 20 years ago by then-Supervisor Harriet White. The disease-resistant elm was planted at Fire station 180, where this year’s service occurred. The Service Hosted by Supervisor Jim Holmes (District 3), the program began with an opening prayer by Chaplain Boon. It was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Several […]

Foresthill Fire Breaks Out

This afternoon a fire broke out near the Foresthill Bridge. Police quickly closed off Highway 49, which leads down to the confluence of the two forks of the American River. They also closed the the Foresthill Bridge road.. Lake Clementine was evacuated and numerous local residents watched near Lincoln Highway and Bowman Road, as Cal Fire planes drop bright red fire retardant on the fire. Dark clouds of smoke indicated structures across from the canyon were likely burning. Living in […]

Auburn’s amazing, iconic Ken Fox statues

Some of the most iconic public art you will find in the Sierra foothills, the Ken Fox statues are a must-see for visitors. There are six statues in the collection. Two – Claude Chana and the Chinese Laborer – are in the old and downtown areas of Auburn. Chana, the first known gold panner in the area, is the most visible at freeway exit 119A for Maple Street. The Chinese Laborer is in the downtown area by the Gold Rush […]

St. Patrick’s Day Car Parade

Here are some images from this year\’s St. Patrick\’s Day Car Parade.  I walked 10 minutes from my studio to the intersection of High Street and Lincoln Way, where I like shooting these events.  At the bottom of the little hill there, I can get some of the cool, older buildings that are part of downtown Auburn.  Families often congregate near the clock and small courtyard, so that makes it easy for catching candids. The event kicked off at 5:17 […]

Placer Artists Studio Tour

Last month, I had a great time hosting a Placer Studio Artists Tour booth! Shannon & Bob McClurg at Grizzly Gallery in Penryn kindly invited me to be one of their guest artists. (As a photographer, I donʻt have a studio per say, as painters and woodworkers do.) In 1994, Helen W. Phillips founded this event. The tour provides visitors with the opportunity to experience the wonder of art being created. This annual tour is Placer County’s largest artist event, with […]
