Here are some images from this year's 4th of July Parade and then one extra composite fireworks image. I started up at the beginning of the event near Cherry Street, finding a little pocket of shade near some Auburn police volunteers. The Auburn police honor guard, in full black wool uniforms (!) also came to share the shade, along with a few bystanders.
Nearby, Good Day Sacramento interviewed Chamber of Commerce President Nalesh Chandra as part of their progressive live coverage of parades throughout the region.
The event kicked off at 10:30, with the fire department directly following the color guard. It was about 90 degrees, but there was lots of shade with the various overhangs up and down High Street. Spectators, many with children, lined the street and nearby sidewalks. Kids of all ages with some great costumes and hair colors were also participants in many of the entries, and as youʻll see I definitely liked shooting them!
I hustled down High Street to the intersection with Lincoln to catch the Placer County Honor Guard Salute (introduced by Police Chief Ryan Kinnan) and kept shooting from there.
From the rabbit celebrating its seven-year birthday, to the Lions Club working on local hunger issues, to always lively Los Caballeros de Auburn, it was a great hometown event. From my observations, there was also a palpable sense of relief at things returning to much more normal.
Thanks to the Chamber of Commerce for spearheading the event, and all the participants who made it so fun and celebratory.
For the evening, I headed up to Sierra Pines United Methodist Church. They offer a great vantage point of the Lake of the Pines fireworks. The church had put out lemonade and games for those who wanted to hang out and take in the festive day. I created "Memories of the 4th" from a number of individual, handheld firework images. (Oops, brought the wrong tripod plate!).
Though I hearken originally from the great white North, I love the happiness and color of the holiday, and always the chance to dress up! CA.
