Here are some images from this year's St. Patrick's Day Car Parade. I walked 10 minutes from my studio to the intersection of High Street and Lincoln Way, where I like shooting these events. At the bottom of the little hill there, I can get some of the cool, older buildings that are part of downtown Auburn. Families often congregate near the clock and small courtyard, so that makes it easy for catching candids.
The event kicked off at 5:17 as usual. This year it was predictably small with overcast skies, but the spirits were high. Spectators, mostly with children, were scattered around the courtyard and nearby sidewalks. The kids chased each other and dove for the gold candy coins, young ladies in tiaras waved from their float, and the vintage fire engine blew its siren. It was a little re-opening bit of fun, as Placer County just moved from the purple to red tier this week.
The event, as the Auburn Journal notes, is not an official City of Auburn deal: "The parade is not a city-sponsored event. There are no permits, no streets are closed, and traffic laws are in effect." Fun, spontaneous, and very green! I'm only 17% Irish, according to 23 and Me, but I love the holiday, the color, and always the chance to dress up! CA. 📷. ☘️
