Nevada County Goes All Out in its Inaugural Pride Festival

After a busy calendar of events this past June, Nevada County wrapped up their Pride celebration with their first ever festival on Sunday, August 6. Held in downtown Nevada City’s Miners Foundry Cultural Center, the event had attracted over 300 people by late afternoon. “Nevada County Pride has been around for about 40 years. Muy rico! The Floricanto Family Festival celebrates Latin culture and rhythms in Sacramento

These images were taken at the Floricanto Family Festival in Sacramento, California on Saturday, May 13, 2023. The event was organized by Casa de Español. I was volunteering with Casa de Español at the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California. Biggest photo challenge of the day was trying not to abandon the booth all day to catch some of the amazing dancers! The event took place in the heart of the city on R Street, right next to Casa. I […]

Happy 4th!

Here are some images from this year\’s 4th of July Parade and then one extra composite fireworks image.  I started up at the beginning of the event near Cherry Street, finding a little pocket of shade near some Auburn police volunteers.  The Auburn police honor guard, in full black wool uniforms (!) also came to share the shade, along with a few bystanders. Nearby, Good Day Sacramento interviewed Chamber of Commerce President Nalesh Chandra as part of their progressive live […]

Wakamatsu Fest150

I had the pleasure of attending the 150th anniversary celebration of Japanese immigration to the U.S. at the Wakamatsu Fest150, held in Placerville June 6-9, 2019. All images were taken with my Nikon D750 camera and Nikon Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6g lens. The event celebrates the 1869 arrival of a group of Japanese colonists from Aizu-Wakamatsu, Japan in Gold Hill, California to start a tea and silk farm. The site is now a registered historic landmark, and is also the birthplace […]
